For the very first time, I’ve gotten the title of my article before I start to type. I was going to write a short one last week to say that nothing negative about Nigeria would ever appear on this blog. I mean to keep it this way from now on. There is so much bad news flying around that I think anyone who ‘lands’ on this page is entitled to a bit of ‘gist’ that will make their lips turn upwards!!!
This last weekend alone, the stories of the kidnapping of foreign oil workers and the religious riots in Maiduguri are enough to put the light out of any ‘positively’ minded Nigerian! I do not intend to expatiate on these news items, Guardian and Vanguard are doing a good job but let me just say that for the agitation of the Niger Deltans, the government should not resort this time around to any face saving measures which are just like cleaning a deep machette wound with savlon when stitches are required, what we need is an end to sycophants and full-bellied ‘compatriots’ admiring the emperor’s new clothes when in fact he is naked!
For Nigeria, I hold on to hope even in the midst of seeming hopelessness and trust that ‘laipe laijina’ (very very soon), good news will pour out of the news media and completely replace the very sad & sordid tales that we have grown used to.
Enough said!
p.s: now did my topic do justice to the article? I think not, will stick to my ‘old’ method next time
