On my way to work this morning (yes, I left my house before the restriction on movement for the census exercise was enforced) I sat right under the bus conductor’s ‘mouth’ and I was sprayed!!!! (Yeah with his saliva) over an argument with another passenger over the correct or wrong fare.
Serves me right abi? I should have sat at home, obeying the Lagos state government’s stay-at-home directive. Well since Lagos state would not pay my salary at the end of the month, its obvious whose directive I obeyed.
The last census exercise was conducted when I was in secondary school and I still remember that Saturday when the counting took place. We were all forbidden from moving anywhere until after the exercise. It was however only one day.
I realise I have not missed anything (so-far) by not staying at home as my family is yet to be counted. Maybe the count will take place today? Maybe? The exercise so far at least from news reports has been marred by poor planning or poor leadership, one of the two.
Anyway I don’t intend to analyse the whole thing but I do want to be counted. How many ‘workers’ will be counted on Friday. If the census officials have already come & gone, what then do we do?
