It has been a while…

Dear all…
It has indeed been longer than I promised. I came back from leave ready to burst with stories from the past two months of wedding planning, marriage and life after that only to be deflated with sad news about a missing friend. His sister is my very good friend and it was like a bomb had exploded when I read her mail, “Tunde is missing”. What on Earth did she mean by that?

He is serving in Enugu state and faithful corper that he is stayed in Enugu to serve. His place of primary assignment Owo community school. Our hearts have been heavy since but with prayers made lighter daily with an assurance that Tunde is alive and He will come back home soon. Please help spread the word.

I had promised not to write anything negative about my nation on this blog, so I won’t. However I implore the Enugu state government and anyone who can help to set about looking for Tunde as if He were their own son. Reading about missing people in foreign media does not fail to impress me, no stone is left uncovered as the police, their dogs, volunteers sniff around looking for trails left. Early in the year a Nigerian lady in her final year at the University was declared missing, I was impressed at the level of investigation that went into trying to find her.

A case of a missing person here is regarded as one case too many until sadly it is someone you know. What agencies are responsible to handle such cases? What arm of the police force is in charge of investigations? there should be a highly publicised number for the public to easily recognise to be called in case of such cases.

One of the responses on the web log where his story was published said “people should be careful now that the election year is drawing close”. It is sad but any approaching election is hinged on so much violence, rituals, robberies, etc and we all know it but no one is concerned. Our leaders are elected after so many atrocities and all they are interested in is looting and stuffing their accounts and stomachs with ‘money’ that they cannot exhaust on Earth. (They certainly cannot bribe their way afterwards)

When is Nigeria going to be blessed with transparent leaders? It is often discussed that Nigeria’s problems are complex and therefore require complex solutions. I strongly disagree and say that it is because we refuse to see black as black and white as white. Once we can speak the truth in all honesty, treat others fairly and justly and throw in jail all who deserve such a sentence, our problems are over. Too simplistic? I don’t think so.
