Happy Independence? – II

Some days all I want to do is read blogs and write in my blog. If I find myself doing just that i’d call it blogtopia! ;)
Welcome to the 2nd part of the ‘series’ (see me talking like a newspaper columnist) ;)
Happy Independence, please read on.

We are back at the bus stop. We have only succeeded in going round in a circle. Nothing accomplished, work has been done to keep us on the same spot. As I get back into another danfo, I hit my head on the ‘door’ with its ragged edges and I just smile tiredly ‘Naija la wa’ (We are in Nigeria!).
How can I say Nigeria is a lot like my daily mode of transportation?
Most times the passengers are packed like sardines in a tightly compressed tin. These are people you have never met from every tribe ‘inside’ this nation but we are all headed in one direction. It doesnt matter if you like the ‘tribe’ the person seated next to you is from or his clothes or even his choice of perfume, you are stuck with him for the length of your journey.

The danfo driver and conductor might be the ‘craziest’ people you’ve met with loud music (which actually is NEVER my choice of music) blaring from the crudely positioned ‘speakers’ but you are stuck with them until you get down at the bus stop.
If the danfo is an old (do new ones exist?) rickety bus with bad tires (how can you tell?) you are stuck in it unless you realise early and jump down to board another such vehicle ;) . The point is you’ll pray (like I did 2days ago) non-stop until you are safely back on your feet! Albeit you are stuck with it.

Nigeria is stuck at least until April 2007 with our choice of poor leadership. It doesn’t matter how many more lies & words are spoken in the marketplace, we are stuck with our choice. Do I hear ‘impeachment’? Who is impeaching who?

Our vehicle (‘bad leadership’) is filthy, stinks and noise from the exhaust deafens! We are packed & compressed, any attempt to stand ‘straight’ results in a bump on the head. (We are all too familiar with the tales  of  students who performed ‘fairly well’ in Nigerian schools only to land on Western soil and perform brilliantly – No NEPA, no water shortages and enough food to enhance previously incapacitated brains)

Sadly like the passengers in the bus who happily disembark at their start off point instead of their destination all we do is rant and rave, shout & abuse but  sit comfortably (even in the heat) as our leaders take us round in circles!

Why does it seem easier for some people/ethnic groups to organize themselves and push for what they believe? Is there some deficiencies in the DNA architecture of Nigerians/Africans/blacks?

I cannot say I honestly miss the transportation in Naija. Sometimes (on very rare occasions) it’s fun, but it isn’t really the first thing I think of when I think of Naija. Nice blog sha.
