Just thinking!

Was thinking the other day how to lift my blog from
the depths of depression to higher and loftier and by
implication more pleasant thoughts… and it hit me,
writing is a way out of the unpleasant for me. It
serves the same purpose as a cathartic drug for
treating constipation ;)
So all my suppressed anger (i think) gets to vent out
in my writing.
When I was a Corper – I kept a journal and faithfully
logged in my daily activities and a few of my
thoughts. I had almost no work to do or rather I found
I had plenty of time on my hands. Going back and
reading makes me appreciate the time when I had
TIME!!! Oh those days ;)
Anyways what am I angry about!!! Nothing in particular
and everything at the same time. I was reading a blog
entry by Olawande
(http://notesfromnaija.blogspot.com)titled ‘A long but
Interesting one’ and it was an article by the New
Yorker.
It was quite long but worth reading. I was going to
start out with how foreign journalists always happen
to see the bad side of Africa and of course, gleefully
report it. I mean apart from the resilence of
Lagosians there was absolutely nothing positive about
the article. Poverty, Hard labour, Filth ,
Deceit….all these poured forth in sufficient
quantity to send any happy cloud 9 guy back to earth
and with a thud too…
However, thinking and really thinking about it. Didnt
we (those of us whose parents could afford to send us
to school) learn that the more sums you got wrong, the
lower your marks? I mean if 90 percent (my own
unedited /unauthorised estimate) or more Lagosians are
scrounging for a living, doesn’t that tell us (no
matter how many positive thinkers and positive talkers
abound) that we have failed! Its obvious, isn’t it?
There shouldn’t be any joy derived from ‘living big’
(whatever that means) or being able to afford
necessities and luxury items when our brothers and
sisters wallow in filth. Abi?
