As a Nigerian especially one who likes to think she’s passionate about Nigeria and the Nigerian situation, I had thought I would have 5 posts now on the elections. However my silence has shown my general apathy (as hard as that is to say) to the whole process…
We’ve read the papers, some of you ‘saw’ what happened and we’ve all heard what the results are.
I truly wish I could be writing about a free and fair election process but I call a spade a spade! From all observations, international inclusive, the process was RIGGED. I doubt that there is any primary school child who doesn’t know that word. It shows us again clearly that our problem in this Nation is one of bad leadership. How can the soon-to-be sworn-in rulers expect obedience when as ‘teachers’ they have been caught cheating?
A number of people are saying his promise to turn NEPA or PHCN around, if fulfilled would give him the credibility he needs as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria but I disagree. A bamboo tree can never produce pawpaws. Therefore YarAdua cannot claim to be a man of integrity and purpose haven been rigged into the office. How can he ask for honesty and prosecute looters of our treasury or even ‘just’ road traffic offenders when he cannot hold his head up high and say ‘I won fairly’. Well maybe he can but that would simply make him a mythomaniac.
I do have to ask however, is it being in power or living in Aso rock or living & working close to those who reside in that ‘power house’ that warps sight and mind and deals a deathly blow to conscience. How come everyone else apart from them can see what is a mess and call it a mess instead of a beauty?
The president-elect is not the only one who cannot sit comfortably come May 29, the numerous law-makers and legislators who were not elected are in the same positions.
Same story abi? Why am I surprised? Well, I dont know, i guess I just didnt expect this blatant theft of votes…
As serious as this is, I sadly belong to the legion who will not step out for any opposition match/demonstration to resist the imposition of people on us. I refuse to die for this cause! (but i can write)!
