Today is the day for ….

Blogging!
One of the courses I am taking is called Operations Management! and one aspect I’ve done is Operations Management in Services! I dont know if this is as a result of the course but my awareness about services especially contact with service operations has been particularly heightened in the last couple of months.

Service 1:
I decided to visit an eatery yesterday. I had only been there twice before and I noted each time how polite the staff were. yesterday, I wanted a change and wanted to be attended to politely so I walked in that direction. Their food is just okay – nothing fantastic. Well, Long story the sales boys or waiters were polite but annoyingly so! yes, I’ve come again o! but I couldnt stand the fawning over, the trying to be familiar with me. Please I’m your customer not a soon-to-be catch. Stand up straight and talk to me and cut out the slangs. Mister, I’m short I know but please dont lean towards me especially because I am speaking out and not whispering. Kai! It was bad service as far as I was concerned! and It will be a long while before I go there.

Service 2:
I stumbled upon an ad on facebook for an online bookshop in NIGERIA. I was excited and I went shopping. Long story too :) I got one book in double the expected time of delivery and I’m still waiting for the second book. I phoned several times before I started getting the same automated mail every week apologising for the delay. I had to ask at some point if this was for real or if I would ever get the book. I got a reply apologising again. Anyway I’m still waiting for my Faust but this experience will not see me visiting them anytime soon. There are several bookshops in Lagos which I can buy from. I dont mind going myself!

Service 3:
Also an online service. I usually get computer items from them but about 3weeks ago I saw what is called an electronic Mosquito Control system. So I went shopping. I am yet to receive it and though I have sent email and tried to call repeatedly I have not received any response.

Service 4: I am a bit tired, this one is a LONG STORY so i’ll conclude it another day. Sorry! bad service abi? but this is free service? does it matter?
I do apologise, I’ll make up for it by adding an extra post! :)

    Hello Ma’am.

I visited this space almost every day after your last post on the 18th of April.

Never mind, I know how it works – office work, family and other “brothers in arms.” I’m just recovering from a writing drought as well. It’s good to have you back “on air.” I thought you’ve gone AWOL.

    E kaa bo.

    Hey T!

It was lunch time at work and I thought what can I read online? I was tired of the usuals, Guardian, Punch, BBC and CNN. The I thought to visit your blog. Always nice to read your thoughts, So this is what you were doing on my b-day! :) Just kidding!
Please keep writing, it is always thought provoking. I especially am plagued by the story of the teachers and Doctor in Sokoto. Need to do something for these real Nigerian heroes.

    God bless,
    ‘B

Toyin …. please your thoughts will be appreciated.
Blogging is putting some Naija contents online. Now Facebook came along :)
    1. Do you think facebook has reduced the enthusiasm of Nigerian bloggers?
    2. Do u think this addictive phenomenon is an alternative to pushing local Nigerian contents online?

I will like to get your opinion.
    Cheers!

@Wale – right o! i had exams in May and I have been recovering since then
@B- hmm thanks o! i was tempted to title this Today is the day for birthdays! truly – you were on my mind the whole day.
Truly Nigeria needs to appreciate her unsung heroes – Light a la NEPA 24/7 would be a good start.

@Ayobami – Thanks for your questions.
    1. I dont think so. Yes in the sense that one spends an inordinate amount of time (that might have been spent in blogsville) going through fb pages. and No because for me blogging and fb are 2 entirely different interests. fb is an inane activity, blogging is more intellectual!
    2. Yes, yes yes – it is well not an alternative but another medium in which a lot of (A LOT OF) nigerian content is coming to the fore and is exposed to people the world over!
