Imagine a Nigeria – 1

Imagine a Nigeria …
…where a poor man collapses in the middle of a crowded bus stop. A kind and fellow passenger calls an emergency number on his cellphone while another performs first-aid resuscitation.

…In 3 minutes the sound of a government ambulance is heard and in the same length of time the fully equipped vehicle complete with smartly kitted personnel arrive. The van has a canister of oxygen to boot!

…They drive away with fellow compassionate Nigerians moving out of the way to allow them reach their destination safely. There are no sudden jolts as the roads are paved and smooth. His arrival and movement to the ward is smooth as the government hospital was expecting him.

…He is treated and when he gains consciousness, he provides his address and other details and his family is contacted. They show up not fearing that they would be asked to bring a horrendous amount of money. The government has subsidised his stay in hospital.

…The nurses are pleasant, the doctors competent! …The food (well its a hospital) is ‘eatable’. The sheets are white, the rooms airy and free of mosquitoes as the windows have nets. The toilets smell of disinfectant only and there is clean running water from the taps.

…When the patient is told he needs surgery or an extensive procedure he does not suddenly bolt and disappear only to end up dead in his house days later. He calmly waits and is given the best treatment ever.

…Imagine a Nigeria with excellent healthcare delivery service for the rich and the poor!

PS: First in the Imagine Nigeria series! I’ll come back and edit because this was written on the spur of the moment.

@laspapi – well it doesnt hurt to imagine. Anyways truly if we do have 1 committed health minister who is giving free reign, a lot will change in the Health sector.
@standtall – Yeah keep imagining – I’m not a positive thinker in the sense that I agree that its not just imagining that’ll take us to the promised land. thanks for landing here.

Imagine??? ….no not necessarily, we only a few good men (who are ready to stand for what is right) and the imagination would be a reality.
