I took my daughter to a show by Ajapa on Saturday. Ajapa or Ijapa is simply tortoise in Yoruba and this stage play (dramatised beautifully) was the famous tortoise tale ‘How the tortoise broke its shell’!
The birds were invited to a feast in heaven and haven obtained that information by deceptive means, the tortoise formed a plan on how to get there.
He deceived the birds by telling and convincing them they could not go themselves as they had never been there before. His lies were so unbelievable (to those of us watching the play) and I was just so amused at how the birds ‘chopped’ his tale of how they would get lost and just fly round and round and round the earth forever if they lost their way to heaven.
In my mind i thought ‘ how could they be so gullible?’. Then a thought flashed across my mind – how can you be so gullible? Believing the lies of the devil!
His lies are so numerous and so untrue that when I think of how I’ve ‘chopped’ so many of them I wonder.
God’s words & promises are exceedingly great and precious that I am saddened to have given 5seconds of airtime to the enemy to flash his thoughts into my mind. His thoughts are so unbelievable (when you do think hard about them) that I just cannot believe I bought his lines at all!
Next time I’m tempted to think or consider any of the devils lies (such as I will not do well, cannot amount to anything, will be lost, harmed, sick) I’ll just think back to the tortoise and the birds and loudly exclaim ‘Thank God I know better’

you r so right! how on earth we believe the father of all lies sometimes, still beats me…and that we has a capital I in it too…but I’ve made up my mind to trust God solely and to staunchly refuse to believe the devil’s lies henceforth…
thanks for this piece…I trust ur baby enjoyed the play too…
